About Me:
I was raised in Dickinson by my Japanese mother who dedicated countless hours for me to be the woman I am today. I am now a 2024 first generation college graduate, working as a Registered Behavioral Therapist. I am currently in the process of applying for a master program to further my career as a Licensed Professional Counselor. I am so excited to be back at AVA, as a coach!
Volleyball Background:
I started my AVA journey back in 2016 on the local team and worked my way up to earning a spot on the Attack team my last two years. During my club years I also played for Dickinson High School. I tore my ACL back in 2018, in that moment I thought my volleyball career ended but because of my love for the sport I could not allow myself to give up. I worked very hard with my athletic trainers, TD3 and the amazing AVA coaching staff to help me play at the collegiate level. Once I had recovered, I earned a scholarship to further my education and volleyball career at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa. During my four years at William Penn University, I was the President of the Association of Student-Athletes and one of the representatives for the Heart of America Conference of Student-Athletes. This sport taught me to be a resilient woman and for that I am extremely grateful to be given the opportunity to mold others for their future endovers.
Coaching Philosophy:
Now that I just ended my volleyball career, I want to spread awareness to my athletes that volleyball is not just about playing but the connections, experiences and life lessons that are developed through the journey. I want my athletes to understand that they set the tone on/off the court. “Talent might make you good, but it’s your attitude and work-ethic that will make you great” (McCaw). That being said, as a coach, it is my job to hand them the tools and build with them to conquer any goal they are wanting to achieve.
Practice Philosophy:
When going into practice athletes must understand the importance of grit and effort. It is a space for players to work as a team to uplift one another for the team to succeed as one. It's a place for breaking down skills and developing mental perseverance.
Coaching Strengths:
Team morale, setting, defense specialist
Final Notes:
My mission is to provide guidance to athletes on their skills and spread awareness of student-athletes mental health. As a coach it is my job to help athletes navigate their love for the sport while maintaining a good work-life balance. It is my passion to prepare skills and mindset for those who are wanting to play at the collegiate level or to simply be good, successful people in the real world.
