KERIANN MASON BACKGROUND

My love for the sport began in the 6th grade when I joined a community recreational volleyball team; I haven't stopped playing since! I played on my middle school and high school teams where I grew up in Southern California; I also played club volleyball from 7th grade on.

In 2009, I attended the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, where I was a starting player all four years on the women's NCAA Division III Volleyball Team. I was named NEWMAC Volleyball Player of the Week each season; I also earned Women's Volleyball Single Season and Career records in number of kills and digs for the school. Additionally, I was selected to the NEWMAC's Women's Volleyball Second Team All-Conference in 2011 & 2012, and to the All-Conference Team in 2009.

I previously was an assistant coach at AVA for the 17 Attack team during the 2016-2017 season before moving away from the area for a couple of years. I returned to Houston in September 2020, and in the fall of 2021, I was the head coach for the girls’ middle school volleyball team at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic School. I also coached at volleyball clinics for girls aged 9-16 with Friendswood Challenge Elite in the summer of 2021.

Currently, I continue my love for the game by playing in several local leagues.

COACHING PHILOSOPHY

My goal as a volleyball coach is to not merely teach your player good volleyball skills; I also aim to teach vital traits that can help your player function beyond the volleyball court. While I, of course, am proud when my players win, I believe winning is a byproduct of strong teamwork, hard work, personal responsibility, and dedication to and enjoyment of the game. These fundamentals must be central to any strong volleyball training program, and I expect my players to exhibit and develop all these traits; not only for winning, but also to have the most fun!
