Marissa Stinson

About me:

I grew up in the Pearland area. I graduated from Manvel High School and attended Concordia University Texas where I received a Bachelor’s in Business Administration - Management. I am currently a 2nd Grade Teacher.

Volleyball background:
As a member of the Lady Maverick’s varsity volleyball team, I earned numerous accolades including All-District Honorable Mention (2015), First Team All-District (2016), Academic All-District (2015, 2016), TCGA All-State Academic Team (2016), and served as the team captain (2016). I continued my volleyball career collegiately at Concordia University Texas, where I led my team to two ASC conference semifinals leading the team in both kills and blocks for two consecutive seasons (2017, 2018). During my career, I racked up numerous accolades including ASC All-Conference Team (2017, 2018), ASC West Division First Team (2017, 2018), ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team (2017), Academic All-ASC Team (2017), ASC All-Tournament Team (2017), and AVCA Division III All-Region Honorable Mention (2018), and was the first Tornado since 2008 to earn an AVCA honor. My junior season, I ranked sixth in the nation in hitting percentage (2018).

Coaching experience:
I went on to coach club volleyball at Roots Volleyball (Austin, TX) and Houston Juniors. In the 2021-2022 club season, I was the head coach of the second national team 16 Premier. 16 Premier had many successes including a 1st place finish at the Tour of Texas Qualifier, 5th at the Las Vegas Classic, and 9th at the Northeast Qualifier. After taking a season off, I stepped in to assist AVA 13 Attack for the post-season. They won the Amethyst division at AAUs. This will be my 7th year coaching club.

Coaching Philosophy:
I coach because of my belief in stewardship and my passion for kids and volleyball. I want to mold players into young adults by teaching effective communication skills, discipline, team unity, accountability, sportsmanship, and time management skills. I believe in developing girls on and off the court. I strive to build lifelong relationships with players and their families and provide them with tools to help them reach their potential in their sport and anything they do. My goal is for athletes to face challenges, not be afraid of failure, and learn how to see mistakes as learning experiences thus empowering them to be young leaders. My team is a safe place where my players can build self-esteem and self-worth, and develop a sense of belonging. We win together, fail together, grow together and take with us all the experiences and life lessons we’ve learned together. Most of all, players are people first and will always be treated as such.

Coaching strengths:
Skill development, volleyball IQ, game strategy, relationship building
